What Amount of Hosting Do You Need?
When people look into hosting they are overwhelmed on how much space and bandwidth is available and at the prices. This can confuse many because they are not sure how much they actually need for their use.
Let us take a step back and see how much you actually need of both for your hosting needs. No longer will you get tied into a package that is more than you need.
The first thing you need to do is to know how big your site is going to be. When you build your first site it will be smaller than you first thought. I know you want to place video and graphics on your site. But be realistic in web hosting first making those are harder than you can imagine and second you don’t want to make your website so big it is hard for people to download. Do not forget that everyone does not have fast access making it hard to load for many. Do not make your site any bigger than about 500k. This can be mean as little as 10 megs will be enough for you.
The next question is the amount of visitors you will get. Having a goal of a 1,000 visitors is good for many. This can be hard but done if you catch a break on the way. Then all you need to do is take your site size and multiply that by a 1,000 and you have your bandwidth.
I’m assuming it is a lot less than you ever imagined. Do not get romanced into thinking you need gigs of web space and that you need terabytes of bandwidth in your web hosting. Purchasing enough for the start and for some small expansion will be enough and you can upgrade with time.
